SecurIMG_1253ity Officer Ibrahim Balogun has earned himself the British Security Industry Association (BSIA) Regional Security Personnel Award for Outstanding Act in London.

Ibrahim works has been working on the London Borough of Camden contract for over two years now, and during this time he has dealt with many challenging customers and has been included in several team incident management issues.

Ibrahim has been nominated for the award by his managers following a serious incident which he handled in a very calm and professional manner. On June 7th 2013, Ibrahim was called to the rest rooms of the Town Hall Extension and was faced with a person who was attempting to commit suicide.  Acting without hesitation, Ibrahim proceeded to remove a strap from around the victim’s neck and contacted the emergency services. He offered first aid services and waited with the gentleman until the ambulance arrived.

Dave Bristow, Account, praises Ibrahim on his actions: “Ibrahim has been working on the Camden security contract for two years and has dealt with many difficult situations. Undoubtedly Ibrahim’s quick response coupled with his training influenced his actions during the incident and ultimately saved this person’s life. 

“His management of the incident, his communication with others and his professional approach by relying on his training all combined to ensure that the matter had a positive outcome, and as such I fully endorse this nomination.”

Carole Smith, Reception Security Manager at London Borough of Camden, comments on Ibrahim’s achievements: “Ibrahim conducted himself in an exemplary manner despite the challenging situation he faced. In addition to foiling the suicide attempt, he administered first aid to the individual until the arrival of the emergency services.”

Ibrahim commented: “I feel very happy and honoured to receive this award, and it’s great to have recognition for the service we provide. At the time of the incident I just reacted instantly and did what I could to help, and was very pleased my actions helped to save someone’s life. I found it a traumatic experience but Camden provided a lot of support and understanding after the incident to help me deal with it.”

Ibrahim will now be put forward to the national judging phase of the awards, which will take place over the coming weeks and culminate in a glittering awards ceremony held at the BSIA’s Annual Lunch in London on July 16th.
