World Health Day 2025

Today is World Health Day 2025.

World Health Day is a global initiative, where each year, the World Health Organisation (WHO), announce a specific theme to spotlight a key area of concern. This year, the theme is “Healthy Beginnings, Hopeful Futures.”

This means that today will kick off a year-long campaign on maternal and newborn health. The campaign will urge governments and the health community to ramp up efforts to end preventable maternal and newborn deaths, and to prioritise women’s longer-term health and well-being.

The health of mothers and babies is the foundation of healthy families and communities, therefore supporting this initiative will help to ensure hopeful futures for us all. To mark this important day, and as an example of our support, we would like to share a fitting story in which we are immensely proud of:

In January this year, expectant mother Odia arrived at University Hospital Lewisham in active labour and whilst in the car park, she quickly realised she wouldn’t make it to the birthing unit and called for help. Without hesitation, CIS Security Officer, Ade Oloye, stepped in to assist, ensuring a safe and smooth delivery. Moments later, CIS Security Officer, Mohammed Elamine Chabat, arrived to support, keeping mother and baby stable until medical teams took over. Their quick thinking, compassion, and dedication turned an intense moment into the beautiful and safe arrival of baby Ocean.

Ade said, “I felt an immense sense of pride in being able to help at such a crucial moment and play a role in the delivery of baby Ocean. This was a reminder that security colleagues play a much
broader role in ensuring the well-being of people, not just through protection but also by offering care and compassion when it matters most. It really is all in a day’s work for us!”

We would like to say a huge congratulations to Odia and Ode on the birth of beautiful baby Ocean, and well done to our quick thinking CIS Security officers, Ade and Mohammed!

Please look at this year’s campaign to see ways in which you can get involved.
