To mark the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women and reaffirm our ongoing support for the White Ribbon campaign, The Gilbert was honoured to host a compelling event in collaboration with The Old Street District Partnership, CIS Security Limited and TrueLayer, who generously provided the venue for this vital discussion. This day serves as a powerful reminder of the critical work still needed to eliminate violence against women and girls. By standing together, we can create a future of safety, dignity, and equality for all.
John Salthouse, Security Manager for The Gilbert, said the event featured an inspiring presentation and an engaging Q&A session with Superintendent Brittany Clarke of the MET Police Hackney and Chief Inspector Caroline Hay MBE of the City of London Police. Together, they provided critical insights into the urgent need to address violence against women and girls, sharing actionable strategies and resources.
We had expert perspectives from Superintendent Clarke and Chief Inspector Hay, as they drew from their extensive experience, focusing on prevention efforts, timely reporting, and survivor support. Initiatives discussed and explored included Project Vigilant, Active Bystanders, Ask For Angela, WAVE, Safe Haven App and Taxi Marshals, aimed at safeguarding the night-time economy and providing advice on addressing drink spiking, emphasising the availability of test kits and the importance of early reporting. Overall, highlighting collaborative efforts, the event underscored the critical role of partnerships between authorities, businesses, and the community in preventing gender-based violence.
