Today marks World First Aid Day, a moment to reflect on the power of quick thinking, compassion, and the courage to act.
In honour of this day, we are incredibly proud to share a story of two CIS Security colleague, Darcy Fletcher and Steve Wicks, who exemplified all of this and more.
After a long day delivering FREC training in Hackney, they were heading home when they encountered not one, but two separate medical emergencies at Stratford Station.
They first assisted a man in severe pain from a dislocated shoulder after a fall. While helping him, they were alerted to a second individual who had collapsed on a train. Darcy immediately attended the situation while Steve remained with the first casualty. Although the second person declined assistance, they both continued to ensure the first patient was stabilised and reassured.
With emergency services delayed and the patient in visible distress, Darcy and Steve went above and beyond – personally escorting him to the nearest hospital in a taxi and staying with him until he was safely admitted.
They delayed their own return home by over three hours.
In a busy station where many others walked past, they did not hesitate. Their professionalism, compassion, and commitment to doing the right thing reflects not just their training, but their character.
They are our everyday heroes, showing that leadership, empathy, and action are not confined to the workplace. On behalf of everyone at CIS Security, thank you Darcy and Steve for living our values when it mattered most.
